Molecular weight: 336.89
Appearance: reddish brown powder

Application scope:

It is used in the manufacture of platinum asbestos for catalysts and cisplatin for cancer drugs.

Platinum chloride, molecular formula PtCl4, molecular weight 336.89. Platinum chloride (IV) is a hygroscopic reddish-brown powder with a density of 4.303g/cm3. It is decomposed by heating. It is soluble in water and acetone but insoluble in ethanol PtCl4 .5H2O as red monoclinic crystal, density of 2.43 g/cm3, 100 ℃ when removing a molecular crystal water, soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol and aether. Synthesis method: by chloroplatinic acid put in hard glass tube in the boat, will slowly rising temperature of 60 ℃ to 150 ℃, the moisture volatilize completely. Within 2 h continue to heat up to 275 ~ 300 ℃, insulation and a half hours, then cooled to 150 ℃. Take out the product quickly, after to put in the boat, heated to 275 ℃ in the chlorine gas flow. Keep warm for half an hour and put the product into the sealed bottle while it is still hot. Its immediate use is in the manufacture of platinum asbestos for use as a catalyst, as well as cisplatin, an anticancer drug that has specific effects on ovarian and testicular cancers. Solubility: soluble in water and acetone, but insoluble in ethanol. Storage and transportation: sealed at room temperature, cool, ventilated and dry.
